Guard of the inside [La Garde du dedans]
---------------------------------------

*Bodyguard [La Garde du corps]

    Number of men: 100 per company
    1 company of Scottish Guard
    3 companies of French Guard 

    Weapons: On foot halberds, mounted carbines
    Note: Companies in charge of the personal protection of the King. 

*The Hundred Swiss [Les Cent Suisses]

   Composed of 27 officers & lower officers.
   " The Hundred Swiss" had as a responsibility for the
   guard of the Royal palace & more especially of the royal apartments. 

*Guard of the gate [La Garde de la porte]

   Number of men: 50
   Officers:  1 Captain, 4 Lieutenants 

*Guard of the Provost [La Garde de la prévôté]

   Number of men: 100
   Officers:  1 Captain: Large Provost of France. 

    Note: charged with the police & of the execution of the law at the court.
    It also carried out the arrest of the prisoners of State. 

Guard of the outside [La Garde du dehors]

*Men-at-arms of the Guard [Gendarme de la Garde]

       Number of man: 250 cavalry
       Captain of company: King
       Officers:    1 Captain Lieutenant
                    3 Lieutenant
                    3 Subalterns
                    3 Handlebars/Guidons
       Under Officers:    10 Sergeants
                           8 Shift workers
                           8 Pennies Shift workers 

       Other members: 1 Police chief with control, 4 Gate standards,
	 4 majors Assistances, 4 trumpets & 1 timbalier. 

       Weapons: as Curassier except replace sabre with rapier
       Note: The senior officers used gray horses &
	 the remainder of the company beige horses.
	 Requirements: proof of good birth and good income

*Light Horses of the Guard  [Les Chevaux Légers de la Garde]

	 Number of man: 200 cavalry
       Captain of company: King
       Officers:    1 Captain Lieutenant
                    2 Lieutenant
                    4 Cornets (Subalterns)
       Under Officers:    10 Sergeants
                           8 Shift workers
                           8 Pennies Shift workers 

       Other members: 4 Gate standards, 4 Junior assistant Major,
	 4 Trumpets, 1 Timbalier

       Weapons: Same as Carabiniers
	 Requirements: proof of good birth and good income
	 Note: Ennoblement after five years of service. 

*Musketeers of the Guard [Les Mousquetaires de la Garde]
       aka King's Musketeers [Les Mousquetaires du Roi]

	 Number of man: 120 cavalry
       Captain of company: King
       Officers:        1 Captain Lieutenant
                        1 Lieutenant
                        1 Subaltern
       Under Officers:     1 Sergeants
                           2 Shift workers
       Weapons: Matchlock muskets (later flinlock carbines),
	          pistols & rapiers

*Second Compagny of Musketeers of the Guard
 [la seconde compagnie de Mousquetaires de la Maison Royale]
       aka Cardinal's Guard [La Garde du Cardinal]

	 Number of man: 120 cavalry
       Captain of company: Cardinal
       Officers:        1 Captain Lieutenant
                        1 Lieutenant
                        1 Subaltern
       Under Officers:     1 Sergeants
                           2 Shift workers
       Weapons: Matchlock muskets (later flinlock carbines),
	          pistols & rapiers
       Notes: Equivalent to Musketeers of the Guard except colour uniforms

*Regiment of the French Guard [Régiment de La Garde Française]

       Number of companies: 20
       Number of man: 300 fusiliers/pikemen per compagny
       Captains of company: King, Princes, Royal Familu
       Officers:        1 Captain
                        2 Lieutenants
                        2 Subalterns
                        (1 Ensign)
       Under Officers:  1 Sergeant major
                        4 Sergeants
                        2 Shift workers
       Weapons: as fusilier or pikemen, though pikemen used steel cuirass

* Swiss Guards [Gardes Suisses]

       Number of companies: 20
       Number of man: 300 fusiliers/pikemen per compagny
       Officers:        1 Captain
                        2 Lieutenants
                        2 Subalterns
                        (1 Ensign)
       Under Officers:  1 Sergeant major
                        4 Sergeants
                        2 Shift workers
       Weapons: as fusilier or pikemen, though pikemen used steel cuirass

* Horse Grenadiers of the Guard [Grenadiers a cheval de la Garde]

	 Raised in: 1676
	 Number of man: 250 cavalry grenadiers
       Captain of company: King
       Officers:    1 Captain Lieutenant
                    2 Lieutenant
                    4 Cornets (Subalterns)
       Under Officers:    10 Sergeants
                           8 Shift workers
                           8 Pennies Shift workers 

       Weapons: Pistols & carbines, sabres, grenades
	 Requirements: Decorated as (common) grenadier and large moustache
	 Note: This company was a chance for common grenadiers to be elavated

* Men-at-Arms of France [Gendarmerie de France]

       Number of companies: 16
       Number of man: 200 cavalry per compagny
       Officers:    1 Captain Lieutenant
                    2 Lieutenant
                    4 Cornets (Subalterns)
       Under Officers:    10 Sergeants
                           8 Shift workers
                           8 Pennies Shift workers
       Weapons: Pistols, saber, rifled carabine
       Notes: Technically not part of Royal Army [Maison du Roi]
	        but was reserve guard cavalry
